Soccer - in my Shoes

(Or is it through my eyes?)

Quo Vadis...?

Soccer in Key West

Let's take a step back in time - to be exact to the 2nd. Sunday in March of 1979.

Location: My Garage/Efficiency across from Bayview Park
around 10 a.m. -
Sitting at the desk/table by the window facing Truman Avenue and the Green Space across the street watching people throwing Frisbees, Dog owners playing fetch/catch with their 'Best Friend' and me having the most peaceful feeling I had ever experienced.
NO, not drug induced nor achieved through meditation, just as if in expectation knowing something good will come forth very shortly.

It certainly did not take long when I saw a round, black and white ball flying through the air and wondered who will be 'retrieving' that beloved toy of joy from yesteryears, back when I could not get enough of it.

And there they were - a handful of people who became friends for life.
Beth and John, Brothers Tommy and Albert, Doug, "Little Larry" and Victor and Scott were some of the mainstay at the begining.

How this all evolved into a High School sport after being chased off the field with Baseball bats and similar disturbing incidents you can catch up with that shortly.

How the team stayed unbeaten for 25 games playing visiting british, french, dutch navy ships and eventually regularly played cruise ships making Key West their Port of Call you can find out in an upcoming section.

NURSE of the Week:

Sheb: As many of the local residents work 2 jobs, Sheb is just doing the same.
Funny and outgoing (2 necessities or requirements in the hospitality business) are his strength without losing perspective on who doesn't quite fit in and belong in this friendly neighborhood bar.
He covers the
9am - 5pm shifts on Mondays and Fridays -

A true sports fan and loves good music it is always a good time to go to visit him and if there's something you'd like to see on the tube, just ask, I usually time it so I can watch a Friday afternoon live soccer game.

A true "Bostonian" - be prepared.
